JCP Fuwa calls on 25,000 audience for support

In the heat of a midsummer day on July 23, Japanese Communist Party CC
Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo made a major campaign speech in front of Shinjuku
Station, one of Tokyo's largest railway stations.

The campaign for the July 29 House of Councilors election was entering
the homestretch,

Appealing to an audience of about 25,000, Fuwa said, "What Japan needs
most now is a political party that is not afraid of Koizumi's popularity and
stands firm against undemocratic politics."

In the four-seat Tokyo constituency, JCP candidate Ogata Yasuo (JCP
International Bureau director) is running to defend his seat in fierce
competition with four major candidates of the Liberal Democratic Party, the
Komei Party, the Democratic Party of Japan, and the Liberal Party. (end)
