Okinawans are unanimous in rejecting war-glorifying history textbook

In Okinawa, where more than a hundred thousand residents were killed in the ground battle toward the end of World War II, no public junior high school will use the controversial "New History Textbook," Akahata reported on July 28.

The "New History Textbook" edited for junior high schools by the "Japanese Society for History Textbook Reform" describes the well-known tragedy of Okinawa's girl students and nurses of the "Red Star Lily"unit as a heroic example. (end)
