Gensuikyo launches worldwide campaign calling for negotiations for nuclear
weapons abolition

The Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) has launched a
worldwide campaign calling for the start of negotiations on a treaty banning
and eliminating nuclear weapons without delay.

The Gensuikyo board meeting in Tokyo on September 11 and 12 made this
decision as a major effort in response to a call from the 2001 World
Conference against A & H Bombs.

The World Conference against A & H Bombs - Nagasaki adopted a letter to
the U.N. and its member states on August 9.

In the report to the board meeting, Takakusagi Hiroshi, Japan Gensuikyo
secretary general, emphasized that the Movement against A & H Bombs marked a
new stage in which international politics and the anti-nuclear movement are
beginning to cooperate with each other. (end)
