JCP Fuwa sends message of solidarity to Buddhist nun fasting for a world
free of wars


Setouchi Jakucho, a well-known writer and Buddhist nun, fasted in prayer
for three days from October 26, calling for a world without terrorism and
war.

Over 150 people over three days visited Setouchi in Kyoto where she
lives. The visitors expressed their solidarity with the 79-year-old nun,
writing out the Buddhist Scripture of prayer for peace.

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo sent a
message of solidarity to Jakucho via the JCP Kyoto Prefectural Committee.

On receiving the message, Jakucho said to her visitors that JCP Fuwa's
message gave her encouragement.

Jakuchou said, "Vengeance produces a cycle of hatred and retaliation. The
retaliatory war must end now."

In Ehime Prefecture in Shikoku region, about 300 Buddhists took part in a
prayer on October 27 against killing, irrespective of the difference in
sects. Shikoku is known as a major site for Buddhist pilgrimage. Drums and
electronic music were played. (end)
