JCP urges government to call on the U.S. to stop using inhumane weapons

In a House of Councilors Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense meeting on November 8, Koizumi Chikashi of the Japanese Communist Party demanded that the government urge the United States to stop using the bomb known as a "daisy cutter" (technically called BLU-82) against Afghanistan.

In its air strikes against Afghanistan, the United States recently began using the 15,000-pound bomb which is billed as the world's most powerful non-nuclear explosive.

The United States is ignoring world opinion calling for a ban of the enormous bomb.

Quoting the United States as saying that targets of the bomb attack are limited to military facilities, Foreign Minister Tanaka Makiko said that the government has no intention to ask the United States not to use it.

Koizumi criticized the government for offering its full support for the U.S. war which is using such inhumane and cruel weapons. (end)
