Doctors, medical workers and students meet for elimination of nuclear weapons

The 12th Meeting of Physicians and Medical Scientists against Nuclear War
and for the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons was held on December 15 at Meiji
University in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo.

About 190 doctors, medical workers, medical students, and nursing school
students from throughout Japan took part in the meeting.

Kato Shuichi, critic, in a lecture talked about his experiences in
Hiroshima when he knew for the first time the tremendous damage caused by
the atomic bomb.

He said that true safety can't be guaranteed by a nuclear deterrence
based on a supposed balance of power.

Koike Akira, Japanese Communist Party member of the House of Councilors,
who went to Pakistan as a member of the JCP Dietmembers team reported what
he saw as a doctor in hospitals for Afghan refugees. (end)
