Trade unions, religious and citizens organizations join hands in opposition
to wartime legislation

Representatives of 24 trade unions, religious, and citizens organizations
met at Nihon Seinenkan Hall in Tokyo on December 13 to discuss ways to help
increase the joint struggle against wartime legislation.

The Japan Federation of Aviation Workers' Unions and the Japan Federation
of Medical Workers' Unions organized the meeting.

Trade unions affiliated with different national centers took part in the
gathering.

Muranaka Tetsuya, vice chair of the Japan Federation of Aviation Workers'
Unions, said that people's lives are being threatened now that the
Self-Defense Forces are dispatched abroad and that the circumstances would
get worse if a law is enacted to deal with "emergencies."

He called on the participants to expand support for the peace movement
among the people. (end)
