Government must withdraw its appeal: suit on aid for overseas hibakusha

Ignoring protests by hibakusha, the Japanese government on January 8 appealed to the high court against the Nagasaki District Court decision that the Hibakusha Aid Law must be applied to A-bomb survivors living overseas.
The Japan Confederation of A and H Bomb Sufferers Organizations (Hidankyo) issued a statement on the same day, demanding that the government withdraw its appeal against the two district court decisions of Nagasaki and Osaka.

Tanaka Terumi, Hidankyo secretary general, in the statement urged the government to pay for health care of hibakusha under the law. The government must enact a law for state compensation for hibakusha so that all hibakusha will be able to enjoy the state's aid policy, the statement says. (end)
