'No wartime legislation': Peace walk at mid-Tokyo

Singing John Lennon's "Give peace a chance," about 200 young people took part in a "Peace Walk" on January 20 in Harajuku, a popular youth spot in Tokyo, calling for opposition to Japan's participation in war.

Participants in the action organized by "Chance! Peace Makers' Network" called for a halt to the war in Afghanistan.

In the peace walk, which was the 9th, some participants also expressed concern about the government plant for wartime legislation which is about to be discussed in parliament.

This was the 9th such walk since the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States and was also attended by people campaigning in other Asian countries in support of the Afghan people.

The campaign has collected almost 30 boxes containing relief goods, including clothes to be sent to Afghanistan. (end)
