Wartime legislation contrary to the Constitution: JCP Fudesaka

Fudesaka Hideyo, acting Secretariat head of the Japanese Communist Party, in an address at a Tokyo rally against wartime legislation, said:

Building a warlike nation is the major aim of wartime legislation

Wartime legislation is a law to conduct a war. It forces the people into cooperation in war and punishes anyone who refuse to comply. Civil disobedience against war will be regarded as a crime.

For example at school, teachers will be obliged to teach children that war cooperation is a national obligation. Fire drills will be done not only for natural disasters but also wars.

Wartime legislation will change Japan from the peaceful nation with Article 9 of the Constitution to a war-fighting nation.

Wartime legislation stands on invasion theory, not on defense

Advocates of wartime legislation say, "If you are prepared, you don't have to worry."

Such well-prepared-is-better argument easily leads to an arms expansion logic. Based on the policy that offense is the best defense, wartime legislation paves the way for wars of aggression.

The preparations which the Liberal Democratic Party calls for are the pretext for involving Japan in wars when the United States carries out military interventions in Asian countries.

The best defense for us is the Article 9 of the Constitution.

Koizumi Cabinet and LDP not qualified to talk about national interests

As you see in the recent LDP scandals involving money and the territorial question, past LDP governments have damaged national interests.

Fore more than half a century, the LDP has persistently pursued efforts to establish wartime legislation.

The struggle for peace never ends. Movements in opposition to wartime legislation are spreading among a wide range of people. To defend Article 9 of the Constitution, let's fight for a genuine peace to be established in Asia and Japan. (end)
