Campaign of sending antinuclear postcards to U.S. proposed

Japan's major anti-nuclear organizations have launched a campaign to send U.S. President George W. Bush postcards urging him to abandon its dangerous strategy that includes the possible use of nuclear weapons.

These are organizations working as a group called "Let's make known the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki."

The anti-nuclear postcard, which the group announced on April 24, states, "Stop planning the use of nuclear weapons and commit yourself to eliminating them," and calls on the U.S. government to implement the promise it made at the NPT review conference in 2000 to eliminate its nuclear arsenals.

The joint group is made up of the Japan Confederation of A and H Bombs Sufferers Organizations (Hidankyo); the National Federation of Regional Women's Organizations (Chifuren); the Japanese Consumer's Cooperative Union; the Organizing Committee of the World Conference against A & H Bombs; and the Japan Seinendan (regional youth groups) Council.

The group says it will distribute more than 100,000 cards. (end)
