Disabled seek society for their self-support

The Liaison Council of Disabled People's Workshops, Kyosa-ren, at the 25th congress in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, on May 17 and 18 adopted a resolution calling for movements to be developed to build a peaceful and prosperous society in which the handicapped can participate proudly.

Kyosa-ren is an organization taking active part in policy proposals for the disabled, and appeals to central and local governments to put these proposals into practice.

Guests from China, Korea, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Pakistan reported on the social environment facing handicapped people in their own countries. Many participants were impressed by a remark that courageous movements of the weak have a power to change society.

Regarding the use of tax money for wasteful public works projects, a participant said she wants the government to use just one tenth of that money to help the disabled. (end)
