Increase struggle to change politics: Kakushinkon holds general meeting

About 200 participants discussed and adopted an action plan for the National Forum for Peace, Democracy and Progressive Unity (National Kakushinkon) at its 22nd general meeting on June 15 in Tokyo.

Right after the Koizumi Cabinet came to office last year, the National Kakushinkon warned that the new cabinet would carry out dangerous Liberal Democratic Party policies forcing citizens to pay even more.

In proposing the action plan to the meeting, National Kakushinkon Coordinator Kobayashi Yoji stated that the present situation confirms that their expectation was correct.

Kobayashi stressed the importance of taking actions to inform citizens of the existence of National Kakushinkon at a time when the integrity of the Constitution is in danger. He proposed organizing activities for young people to help them realize that change in politics is possible.

Ichida Tadayoshi, Japanese Communist Party Secretariat head, talked about the characteristics of today's political situation and the role of the Kakushinkon movement.

Referring to the decline in the LDP's ability to govern, Ichida said, "This situation did not arise spontaneously but as the result of the struggles of many organizations, including Kakushinkon and the JCP."

Ichida said, "The crisis of LDP politics will not automatically lead to political change. We have to increase our struggle and independent ability to achieve political change." (end)
