SDF provides 'lectures' and simulation war games in universities

Japan's Self-Defense Forces in several universities and graduate schools carry out activities such as: lectures by high officers, discussion with officials, training in bases and stations, trial flights on P3C patrol aircraft, and simulation virtual war games.

With the Osaka School of International Public Policy, the Ground Self-Defense Force Middle Army Headquarters officers had a series of "joint studies" from October to December last year.

As part of the "joint studies," the participants stayed at the GSDF Itami Station in Hyogo Prefecture for three days to carry out a virtual war game on the assumption that the Gulf War triggers a "situation in the surrounding area of Japan" and thereby an emergency for Japan.

The same kind of "joint studies" are also scheduled for this October to December at the Kobe University Graduate School of Law's Law Faculty.

The Japanese Communist Party Hyogo Prefectural Committee on August 7 made representations to the Kobe University president, asking him to respect the peace principle of the Constitution and defend the autonomy of university and academic freedom.

Warning that the SDF intends to recruit candidates as high ranking officers and gain recognition among universities, the JCP states that universities should not join hands with the SDF which is an unconstitutional force subservient to U.S. hegemonism. (end)
