JCP leaders congratulate East Timor president

On August 30, a day of historical importance for East Timor's struggle leading up to the establishment of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, the Japanese Communist Party Central Committee expressed congratulations in a message to East Timor President Xanana Gusmao. The message was signed by JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo and JCP Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo. The message read:

The Japanese Communist Party has great respect for the efforts of your country in putting an end to the long period of colonial rule and foreign occupation through peaceful realization of the will of the majority of the people. We hope that your government and people will further consolidate your hard-won independence, and successfully carry out the task of nation-building. We look ahead to East Timor achieving, as the Constitution of your country stipulates, peaceful resolution of conflicts, disarmament and a new international order in security and the economy, one that is capable of ensuring peace and justice among peoples, based on the principles of national independence, the right to self-determination and non-interference in the internal affairs of other states.

It is our wish that the cooperation and solidarity between us will expand on our common goal of achieving peace and progress in Asia and rest of the world. (end)
