TEPCO vice president admits he was aware of cover-ups of nuclear reactor problems

Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) Vice President Enomoto Sadaaki admitted on September 3 that he as then director of TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear power plant had received a report that there were cracks in the reactor's core structure.

This is the first time that a TEPCO's official has said that he was involved in the cover-ups of the nuclear reactor's problems.

Later in the day, it was also disclosed that cracks in the number one reactor of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station had been welded using methods that are not approved by the government and that the repair report had been falsified in order to cover it up. TEPCO may have organizationally falsified its reports to cover up the problems. (end)
