JMIU files complaint about IBM's unfair labor practice to labor committee

Union workers of IBM Japan on October 16 filed a complaint with the Kanagawa Local Labor Committee demanding an end to IBM Japan's plan to transfer about 800 workers to a subsidiary.

IBM Corp., the world's largest computer maker and a parent company of IBM Japan, last April agreed with Hitachi, Ltd. to set up a joint hard disk unit. They decided to establish a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. and transfer IBM Japan's employees there. IBM Japan has publicly said that working conditions including salaries for the transferred workers would worsen.

In the complaint, the All-Japan Metal and Information Machinery Workers' Union (JMIU) IBM Japan branch demanded that the company sincerely bargain with the employees about the new subsidiary's business plan and working conditions. (end)
