JCP chair holds talks with West Bengal's chief minister

The Japanese Communist Party delegation led by Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo arrived in India's West Bengal on December 18.

In Calcutta, Shii held talks with Shri Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, chief minister of the West Bengal Government led by the Left Front.

Shii was briefed by the chief minister about the West Bengal government's achievements in agricultural land reform and the revitalization of local governments. Bhattacharya specifically explained the recently introduced Green Card system with the aim of helping the lowest income residents.

Bhattacharya explained his government's efforts to attract more foreign investment. On the issue of economic globalization, he emphasized the need for every country to maintain the independence and openness of the economy.

Saying that the task of West Bengal's people, representing one eightieth of the world population, is very important, Shii expressed his hope that their efforts will make further advances.
