Women call for anti-war actions

In solidarity with the world's peace-loving people, nine well-known leaders of women's movements in Japan on January 31 issued a joint call for an action against a U.S. possible attack on Iraq.

The women proposers include Inoue Miyo (president, New Japan Women's Association), Ejiri Mihoko (former president, the Young Women's Christian Association of Japan), Seki Chieko (journalist), Hata Sumiko (documentary photographer), Moriya Takeko (president, Japan Federation of Women's Organizations).

Pointing out that U.S. attacks will threaten the lives of innocent people, including children and women, they call for taking anti-war actions on February 14 (Valentine's Day), on February 15 (international day of actions), and on March 8 (International Women's Day).

In addition, the Liaison Committee for the "Women's Year of the Constitution" on January 29 sent a letter to U.S. President George W. Bush, requesting him to give up his war plan against Iraq. (end)
