JCP Shii states politics' role for medical accident prevention

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on February 7 emphasized the responsibility of politics in preventing medical accidents.

Shii was emphasizing this during his question time at the Lower House Budget Committee meeting in connection with a Liberal Democratic Party member's attack on the JCP over medical accidents at hospitals which are members of the All Japan Federation of Democratic Medical Institutions.

Shii said the need now is to take political efforts to give support to medical institutions which are earnestly trying to prevent accidents from recurring. He criticized the LDP member for engaging in party politics by pointing at the hospitals in which medical accidents occurred. "Such an attitude has nothing in common with the effort to eliminate such accidents," Shii said.

Refuting the LDP Dietmember's accusation that the hospitals caused accidents because they were busy waging JCP election campaigns, Shii said that the JCP has never asked any organization for support. "In order to attack the JCP, the LDP member abused medical accidents and disgraced the Diet," Shii stressed.

The four opposition parties on the same day demanded that the LDP member's remarks that defamed the JCP be deleted from the minutes and that he make an apology. (end)
