LDP Dietmember abuses medical accidents to defame JCP

A Liberal Democratic Party Dietmember of parliament who has a close relationship with the Komei Party and its parent religious organization Soka Gakkai used medical accidents to defame the Japanese Communist Party in the Lower House Budget committee meeting on February 6. LDP Nishino Akira was referring to incidents which occurred at hospitals affiliated with the Japan Federation of Democratic Medical Institutions (Min-iren).

JCP Secretariat Head Ichida Tadayoshi at a news conference on the day criticized the LDP lawmaker for questioning about the problem, which has nothing to do with prevention of medical accidents, but apparently aimed at slandering the JCP in the televised session.

Ichida said that the four hospitals named by Nishino have shown the ability to correct themselves by re-examining medical procedures and taking measures to prevent accidents from recurring. He also denied Nishino's allegation that Min-iren hospitals become vote-collecting machines for the JCP in elections, as contrary to the facts.

In the board meeting of the Lower House Budget Committee on the same day, opposition parties in concert protested against Nishino's questioning.

Min-iren President Hida Yasushi at a news conference expressed the federation's determination to examine the cause of the accidents and prevent further medical accidents. He commented on Nishino's Diet question as "very abnormal." (end)
