Fuwa receives new Cuban ambassador

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo on February 19 in Tokyo received Orlando Ernandez Guillen, Cuba's new ambassador to Japan at the JCP headquarters.

Referring to a JCP delegation tour of Cuba last year, Ernandez said he was glad to see exchanges between the JCP and the Communist Party of Cuba developing.

He explained Cuba's economic crisis following the collapse of the former Soviet Union and efforts the country has made to overcome the crisis.

Fuwa, recalling his visit to Cuba 18 years ago, expressed interest in Cuba's efforts to overcome the difficulty as well as Cuba's achievements in the areas of medicine and education.

On the Iraq question, Ernandez criticized the United States for imposing its will on other countries. It is notable that the world's governments, including U.S. allies, are now coming together to block a war against Iraq, he said.

Fuwa emphasized that for the first time in history the movement against U.S. unilateralism and its war on Iraq is developing throughout the world before the war starts. He said that the U.S. plan to be the sole dominating power would tread a path to failure in the 21st century.

Ernandez and Fuwa also exchanged views on the significance of the Non-aligned Summit to be held soon in Malaysia. (end)
