DYLJ calls on government to stop war

Members of the Democratic Youth League of Japan (DYLJ) on March 7 made representations to the Foreign Ministry and the U.S. Embassy, demanding that they take initiatives to peacefully solve the Iraq crisis.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DYLJ Chair Himei Jiro said that Japan's government should clearly show its opposition to the use of force against Iraq.

Hinode Eisuke, parliamentary secretary for foreign affairs and Liberal Democratic lawmaker, answered that Iraq is accepting the U.N. inspection because of the military pressure by the U.S. and Britain.

About 30 DYLJ members brought messages from young people for Japan's prime minister to the foreign ministry. They also handed their messages for the U.S. president to a U.S. Embassy official. (end)
