Fuwa meets with CPC Political Bureau member Yu

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo on April 17 met with Yu Zhengsheng, Communist Party of China Political Bureau member, who was leading a 15-member CPC delegation visiting Japan at the invitation of Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the meeting held in the Diet building Fuwa and Yu discussed JCP-CPC relations and the Iraq question.

Recalling his last visit to China in August last year, Fuwa stated that it was significant that the CPC leadership headed by CPC General Secretary Jiang Zemin at the time expressed its opposition to the planned U.S. attack on Iraq. He added that he shares the call for international rules to be respected in dealing with the Iraq question and other issues concerning peace with the Chinese government.

"The United States may militarily be the victor in the Iraq war, but the problem of lawlessness and acts of aggression remain unresolved," Fuwa said.

Fuwa also stated that if the United States, which invaded Iraq, plays the role of arbiter in establishing a new Iraqi government, it will be another form of colonialism. "This will raise a very serious international question," he added.

Yu stated that the United States would not be able to escape stronger international criticism if its unilateralism goes too far in its exercise of hegemony. He stressed that China wants to contribute to world peace and stability while striving to achieve its national socio-economic development.

Fuwa said that China's economic development is now inseparable from the task of creating an international environment of peace.

Fuwa and Yu promised that the two parties will make further efforts to enhance JCP-CPC relations. (end)
