JCP demands that SDF stop collecting personal information of young citizens

Japanese Communist Party Lower House member Haruna Naoaki on April 23 demanded that the Defense Agency stop collecting personal information on young people, concerning their eligibility to be Self-Defense members, from local governments.

At a Personal Information Protection Special Committee meeting, Haruna pointed out that the DA has obtained the personal information of at least 1.2 million people.

Reporting that the SDF has collected information on teenagers' occupations in Nagano Prefecture and their special skills in Fukui Prefecture, Haruna stated that the DA should not have local municipalities submit such information.

DA Director-General Ishiba Shigeru answered that the SDF collects only the minimum information they need. (end)
