JCP CC 8th Plenum approves draft JCP Congress Resolution

The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee closed its two-day 8th Plenum on September 18 after unanimously adopting the draft Resolution to be proposed to the JCP 23rd Congress and a "basic policy on party activities toward the general election and the 23rd JCP Congress".

The Plenum also approved a proposal on preparations for the JCP 23rd Congress to be held for five days from November 22.

The draft revised JCP Program has provided the party with a new political and theoretical basis toward ensuring its advance in the 21st century, a basis for carrying out party activities in every field. Its initial but important example took shape as the draft Congress Resolution, Shii said.

A JCP appeal in Part Seven of the draft resolution, titled "Arouse public dialogue and campaign against crisis in social morals," was positively accepted in the meeting and its offprint will be distributed throughout the country, Shii said.

Concerning the next House of Representatives general election and the JCP Congress, Shii stated that even though achieving a victory is not easy, the party must make every effort to achieve a JCP advance. His call was warmly received by the plenum, Shii stressed.

Pointing out the sharp organizational decline in the Liberal Democratic Party that is causing an increase in the number of politically non-affiliated people and the serious breakdown of people's living conditions, Shii stressed the need to reach out to the public and let them know that the JCP is the only party with alternative policies for remaking Japan and that it is a reliable guardian of the people's living conditions.

Calling on all JCP organizations and members to use the next 40 days to successfully gather the party's wisdom and might in preparation for the general election, Shii concluded his remarks. (end)
