Tokyo residents protest against governor's terrorism-tolerating remarks

About 70 people on September 16 assembled in front of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government buildings to protest against the terrorism-tolerating remarks made by the Tokyo governor.

On September 10, after a suspicious explosive device was discovered at the house of Deputy Foreign Minister Tanaka Hitoshi, Tokyo Governor Ishihara Shintaro stated that the incident was "a matter of course."

Holding banners reading, "Tolerance to terrorism is rejection of democracy" and "Governor Ishihara cannot defend the safety of residents", the protesters demanded Ishihara's apology and immediate resignation.
Dietmembers of the Japanese Communist Party and the Social Democratic Party took part in the rally.

The rally representatives handed the governor's secretary a statement requesting the governor to resign. (end)
