Anti-nuclear weapons signatures in braille submitted to U.N.

Representatives of a Japanese organization of people with visual impairment submitted to the United Nations 10,543 signatures in braille in support of the "Appeal from Hiroshima and Nagasaki" calling for the abolition of nuclear weapons.

On October 22, Sanpei Kazutoshi and Ogata Junko on behalf of the All Japan Association of Persons with Visual Impairment (Zenshikyo) visited the U.N. Undersecretary General for Disarmament Affairs, Abe Nobuyasu at U.N. headquarters in New York.

Sanpei and Ogata were in New York as members of a 9-member delegation of the Japan Council against A & H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) visiting the United Nations and meeting with U.S. peace groups.

The delegation, led by Nakano Shinobu, who is a Hibakusha (A-bomb survivor) of Nagasaki, delivered about 1,000 signatures in support of the call for "nuclear weapons to be abolished now" to the U.N. undersecretary general. (end)
