JCP Shii meets with China's friendship association vice chair

Japanese Communist Party Chair Shii Kazuo on December 5 met with Chen Yongchang, vice chair of the China-Japan Friendship Society at the party head office.

Chen said, "We commend the Japanese Communist Party's proposals and efforts to maintain Japan-China friendship, pursue Japan's peaceful development, and defend world peace."

In relation to calls for an "independent Taiwan", Chen expressed concerns about some Japanese politicians sending a "wrong message" to Taiwan.

On the historical question and the issues regarding Taiwan, Shii stressed that the five-point proposal on Japan-China relations which was made by the JCP Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo in 1988, is now more important than ever. The five points are: 1. Japan should strictly reflect on its past war of aggression; 2. Japan should stick by the "one-China" policy in international relations; 3. Japan and China should stand firm on mutual nonaggression and relations based on peaceful coexistence; 4. Japan and China should solve all problems by peaceful negotiations; and 5. Japan and China should cooperate with each other for peace in Asia and the rest of the world.

In accordance with the proposal, the JCP will make further efforts so that adverse currents emerging from Japan can be overcome, Shii stated. (end)
