Young workers complain about jobs on JCP website

At the Japanese Communist Party web page for young people concerned about jobs that came online on October 1, many young people are complaining about the lack of jobs or low pay and other severe working conditions.

The JCP website is aimed at helping young people network themselves to address the issue of job scarcity, a major problem affecting Japanese society.

To questionnaires on the Internet about jobs, there were 62 responses, 38 by persons in their 20s and 24 by persons in their 30s or over. Only 16 have full time jobs, and 14 are job seekers.

In multiple answers, 36 complained about the lack of jobs, followed by 24 who said they were refused full-time employment, and by 23 who said they are underpaid.

In free response columns, a full-time employee in his early 20s said that he works from morning until dawn the next day but is not paid for overtime worked.

A female contingent worker said that she failed to get employed when she graduated from college this year. She said, "I work as a contingent worker for 800 yen an hour, with no pay for overtime. My contract may be terminated at any time."

Another such woman who work on a short-term contract for an hourly wage of 800 yen said that she is overwhelmed by uneasiness about the future. She said she feels humiliated at being taken advantage of by the company and her being unable to get a full-time job elsewhere.

A full-time employee at the Iwate branch of a major corporation in his late 20s said that he works from 6 a.m. to twelve midnight, and that even on his rare days off, he cannot relax because he may be called up by the company at any time. (end)
