Workers hold 'Give us jobs' actions

About 1,800 workers from unions affiliated with the National Confederation of Trade Unions (Zenroren) as well as independent unions on December 19 participated in various actions calling for job security, including demonstrations and representations to ministries.

The day of action was organized mainly by the Joint Struggle Committee for the People's Spring Struggle.

Holding placards and banners that read, "Give us jobs, not unemployment," and "No to restructuring," the protesters held a rally at Hibiya Amphitheater located next to the government office district.

Speaking to the participants on behalf of the organizers, Zenroren President Kumagai Kanemichi severely criticized the government for increasing the mobility of the workforce and large corporations for making their largest-ever profits. (end)
