JCP calls for a law for prevention of revolving-door accidents

Following a revolving-door accident that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy, Japanese Communist Party representative Togashi Renzo on March 30 demanded that the government immediately set to prepare safety regulations to prevent similar accidents in automatic revolving doors.

At a House of Councilors committee meeting, Togashi pointed out that the accident in which the boy's head was caught in an automatic revolving door at Tokyo's commercial complex "Roppongi Hills", is a warning against the government's attitude of placing more importance on profit-yielding economic activities than on human life.

Although more than 30 revolving-door accidents occurred at Ropponngi Hills since its grand opening last April, the government has neglected to take preventive measures and left the matter to manufacturers or building operators. Just one week before the fatal accident, a government official praised Roppongi Hills as a successful model of urban development. (end)
