JCP May Day slogans

The Japanese Communist Party has published its 75th May Day slogans as follows:

-- Pass a verdict on the Koizumi Cabinet which is under the thumbs of large corporations and the U.S. government. Bipartisanship by two major parties sharing the same values can not change politics. Achieve a major JCP advance to promote political change to meet citizens' needs.

-- The Iraq war has no justification. End the U.S. occupation and support a U.N.-led effort to assist the Iraqi people in reconstructing an independent country. Self-Defense Force units must be withdrawn from Iraq immediately.

-- Oppose an adverse revision to the Constitution. Build up a nationwide common struggle to defend the war-renouncing Article 9. Foil wartime-related bills which, if enacted, will be used to mobilize the whole nation for U.S. wars.

-- Block the adverse pension reform. Establish a system that guarantees everyone a minimum pension. Oppose an increase in the consumption tax rate.

-- Establish rules to defend employment, living conditions, and workers' rights. Support local economies and protect the environment. Large corporations must fulfill their social responsibilities.

-- Abolish the Japan-U.S. Security Treaty. Remove the U.S. bases. Drastically revise the Japan-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement. Let the calls for the abolition of nuclear weapons be heard throughout the world. (end)
