Two U.S. servicemen arrested for attempted murder

Two young U.S. airmen based at the U.S. Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture were arrested by local police on June 26 for attempted murder in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture.

Off duty and drunken, Darius Antione Carlton and Michael Alan Maldonado reportedly attacked two Japanese with metal knuckles. One was seriously injured with his skull caved in and the other slightly injured with head wounds. The airmen escaped from the site of attack, but were arrested by Morioka City police.

The two Japanese had tried to intervene in a quarrel between the U.S. servicemen and a Japanese in a parking lot just before dawn on June 26. (end)
