Candlelight vigil calls for end to occupation of Iraq

On the evening of June 30, about 400 people holding candles converged on the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo in protest against the U.S. war of aggression against Iraq.

The "Peace Candle Night" was jointly organized by several organizations, including the Tokyo Peace Committee and the Japan Lawyers Association for Freedom.

The participants submitted to the embassy a letter to U.S. President George W. Bush demanding that he immediately withdraw U.S. forces from Iraq. (end)
