JCP CC Chair Fuwa talks with China's Vice President Zeng

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo on September 3 held talks with Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong, who is a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

Fuwa was in Beijing to attend the 3rd International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

Zeng thanked Fuwa for participating in the ICAPP.

Fuwa thanked Zeng for the invitation to the 3rd ICAPP and for his efforts as the person in charge of the conference. Referring to a "major change in Asia", which was mentioned earlier by Zeng in his speech at the opening ceremony of the ICAPP, Fuwa pointed out that Southeast Asia has overcome the "divisions" during the Vietnam War and has now become a "peace-setting region to the world". "I keenly feel that the assembly of Asian political parties, irrespective of their ideological differences, represents a significant trend of the 21st century," he added.

Recalling CPC-JCP relations from the 1920's to this day, Zeng expressed his gratitude for the JCP's support in China's liberation struggle and in the process of the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan in spite of the lack of relations between the two parties for a certain period. He expressed satisfaction with CPC-JCP relations developing since their normalization in 1998 and stated, "We'd like to help develop friendships between the two peoples as well as between the two governments through constant development of CPC-JCP relations."

Pointing out that there are obstacles between the two countries although their relations are generally improving, Zeng asked Fuwa for his views about the state of Japan-China relations.

Fuwa pointed out that JCP-CPC relations have developed based on the CPC's sincere response at the time of normalization, adding, "JCP-CPC relations do not directly link to Japan-China diplomatic relations." While relations between China and other regions or continents are greatly improving, Japan-China relations are deteriorating. Despite an increase in the number of tourists and economic development in both counties, only the state of politics is in a difficulty. He said that the difficulty is caused by "wrong behaviors of a single politician". However, he expected that judging from the present world trend, the problems will certainly be solved through time and through mutual cooperation.

Zeng agreed with Fuwa and said that "noises" between the two counties can also be heard in China. Citing an unfortunate incident during the final match of the Asian Cup soccer matches in early August, he said, "It is regrettable that something we didn't want to see occurred."

Fuwa went on to say, "I'd like to ask the Chinese people to distinguish those who are causing noises from the Japanese people."

Zeng replied, "Friendship is the mainstream of China, not the noises." (end)
