Gensuikyo in U.S. calls for solidarity with peace movement

The Japan Council against A and H Bombs (Japan Gensuikyo) delegation to the United Nations on October 9 called for action toward nuclear weapons abolition at a rally held in Hartford, Connecticut.

At the rally on nuclear weapons and the U.S. empire in expansion, Japan Gensuikyo secretary general Takakusaki Hiroshi stated that the remarkable thing is that people in the world are beginning to act for peace, while the U.S. Bush administration has imperiled the world by invoking its preemptive attack strategy in the Iraq War.

He called on the participants to work together, with an eye to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty Review Conference in May 2005, to urge nuclear weapons states to carry out the "unequivocal undertaking" to eliminate their nuclear arsenals.

About 70 peace activists in the state of Connecticut, including Joseph Gerson of the American Friends Service Committee, attended the meeting. (end)
