JCP representative attends Beijing seminar on socialism in 21st century

Kachi Tadashi, a board member of the Japanese Communist Party's Social Sciences Institute, spoke on socialism in the early 21st century at a seminar in Beijing on October 22.

In his speech entitled, "Conditions and possibilities for socialist change in the 21st century," he stressed that building a socialist country through a market economy will be a significant current in the 21st century, saying, "The era of a few powerful nations controlling the world is already gone."

The JCP representative stated that a current for building a post-capitalist society will emerge in many ways in the 21st century. He explained that the JCP Program emphasizes the need for Japan to carry out a democratic revolution within the framework of capitalism and to develop socialism through a market economy.

The symposium was held from October 21 to 23 by the China Center for Contemporary World Studies and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping's birth. (The next issue of the Japan Press Weekly will carry a full text of Kachi's speech.) (end)
