JCP strives to help reconstruct typhoon hit area

In areas heavily damaged by a powerful typhoon, including Kyoto, Hyogo, and Gifu Prefectures, the Japanese Communist Party is investigating damages, collecting requests of local residents, and supporting their reconstruction efforts.

On October 23, JCP House of Councilors member Inoue Satoshi visited Toyo-oka City in Hyogo Prefecture where residents were affected by floods. Mayor Nakagai Muneharu requested that Inoue demand that the government support the city's reconstruction, including getting rid of enormous quantities of debris.

In response to the call by the JCP Hyogo Prefectural Committee, about 40 JCP members on the next day helped Toyo-oka residents clear their homes of mud and debris.

On October 24, Upper House member Nihi Sohei went to Tamano City in Okayama Prefecture to investigate flood damages as soon as he returned from New York. The city's deputy mayor handed a statement to Nihi calling on the government to financially support its reconstruction.

On the same day, Lower House member Kokuta Keiji visited Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. About 40 JCP members took part in city activities to help residents clear their houses. (end)
