Unions to focus on issue of unstable employment in Spring Struggle next year

The 2005 Spring National Struggle will put a greater emphasis on part-time and other contingent workers under unstable employment conditions as well as on full-time workers.

This was decided at the annual general meeting of the 2005 Spring Struggle Joint Committee held on October 28 in Tokyo.

Iwata Yukio, the committee's secretary general, proposed a general plan for the 2005 Spring Struggle that focuses on the minimum wage struggle and the movement demanding an equitable treatment of part-time and temporary workers.

He also emphasized the importance of forcing local governments to ensure that their employees can receive reasonable pay and pressing corporations to fulfill their social responsibilities.

Iwata also said that broader national cooperation is needed to increase the struggle to improve social services and defend the Constitution. (end)
