JCP requests Tokyo government to improve educational and social programs

On October 27, the Japanese Communist Party Tokyo Metropolitan Committee led by the JCP Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly members made representations to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government requesting a budget that would ensure that public schools can reduce class sizes and help to improve the social welfare programs.

An Education Board official rejected the JCP's call for the maximum number of students per class to be set at 30, although he admitted that the government recognizes the benefit of class size reduction.

At the Health and Welfare Department, the JCP representatives requested that free medical care be made available to all children up to junior high school students, regardless of household income.

In answer to the JCP representatives' request that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government reduce the nursing care insurance premiums for low income residents, an official said that the Tokyo government is not considering such a plan at this point. (end)
