Anti-Soka Gakkai journalist's telephone found to be spied on by Soka University graduate

Akahata of November 11 reported that a group of Soka University graduates had stolen the call logs of Otsukotsu Masao, a journalist who is critical of Soka Gakkai.

Otsukotsu and two other persons whose call logs were also stolen revealed the fact at a news conference on November 10.

The revelation came as a by-product of the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office investigation into another case of stealing of cell phone call logs.

Prosecuted is a 28-year-old former employee of DoCoMo Systems, a computing systems company. He is charged with violating the Telecommunications Business Law by stealing cell phone logs of two women former Soka Gakkai members and of Mr. Otsukotsu.

However, the accused was not acquainted with either the two women or the journalist. Being anti-Soka Gakkai is what the three victims have in common.

Akahata pointed out that the crime was impossible without an organized search that chose the three phones for the accused to steal the call logs. Akahata is concerned if the prosecutors can actually reveal the whole picture of this organized crime.

Otsukotsu said, "Not only the privacy of communication is violated, but also the freedoms of belief and speech are violated." One of the women said, "I'm not acquainted with the accused, and he has no justification for stealing my call logs."

The period of call log stealing coincided with the time when Otsukotsu, well-versed in the Soka Gakkai question, founded a magazine "Forum 21" on March 1, 2002. (end)
