JCP sends message to Portuguese Communist Party congress

The Japanese Communist Party Central Committee sent the following message to the Portuguese Communist Party 17th Congress held in Almada from November 26-28:

On the occasion of the 17th Congress of the Portuguese Communist Party, we bring you our warmest greetings of solidarity.

Your Congress is being held in the year of the 30th anniversary of the "April Revolution", which put an end to despotic politics and became a turning point in extending freedom and democracy in Portugal. We sincerely wish you that the Congress will be successful in defending people's livelihoods against a reduction in social welfare and against the arbitrary rule by large corporations, as well as promoting your struggles for peace and security in the world, including withdrawal of the foreign forces from Iraq.

In the new JCP Program we adopted at the 23rd Congress in January, we put forward our present-day view of a future society of socialism/communism, while making it clear once again that the immediate task for change in Japan is to carry out a democratic revolution, within the framework of capitalism, that would put an end to Japan's subordination to the United States and the tyrannical rule by large corporations and business circles. We set out policies for democratic reform to the Japanese people in all of political, economic and diplomatic fields, and are now doing our best to carry them out.

We hope that exchanges and cooperation between the two parties will be further developed on common challenges, including the realization of peace based on the U.N. Charter and the establishment of a just and democratic international economic order.
