JCP CC Chair Fuwa meets with U.S. professor of law

Japanese Communist Party Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo received Peter Erlinder, a U.S. lawyer and professor of law at William Mitchell College of Law, at the JCP head office on December 10.

The meeting was at the request of Erlinder, who wanted to use his visit to Japan to see Fuwa to know more about his thinking about Marx's and Engels's concept of a future society in connection with Fuwa's book "Rereading 'Critique of the Ghota Program'".

The lawyer said that he was inspired by Fuwa's way of analyzing what Marx and Engels wrote in the historical context.

The two talked about the vast changes that have taken place since the era of Marx, and noted that interest in the usefulness of Marx's analysis of capitalism is increasing today even in the United States

Erlinder was the president of the National Lawyers Guild, a progressive legal society between 1993 and 1997. He played a major part in the team of lawyers for the families of students and teachers who lost their lives on board the Ehime Maru, the Japanese vessel that was hit and sunken off Hawaii in February 2001 by the U.S. Navy submarine Greenville which was performing a surfacing maneuver.
