JCP will be present everywhere to answer people's needs

Japanese Communist Party Executive Chair Shii Kazuo in an TV interview said, "The JCP will work to increase the movement in every area of public life to help realize public needs with the motto, 'The JCP will be present where people have problems to solve and demands to realize."

Answering questions on Asahi NEWSTAR's New Year program aired on January 1st, Shii said, "We will develop grassroots movements on all issues in all fields in response to the needs of the toiling public, including the defense of the Constitution and improvement of living standards.

He also emphasized the need for the JCP to increase its real power through studying and propagating the new JCP Program and through increasing the readership of the daily and weekly Akahata.

Referring to the fiscal 2005 budget which will be discussed in the coming ordinary session of the Diet, Shii warned that the proposed plan to shift even heavier burdens onto taxpayers will have a destructive consequence, recalling that the similar measures the Hashimoto Cabinet took in1997 brought about a major economic slump.
