JCP wins Nagasaki's two single-member constituency elections

In the February 6 supplement election for Nagasaki City Assembly members following its merger with six adjacent towns, two JCP candidates returned in two single-member constituencies.

In the Koyagi constituency, a town of closed coal mines, Tsumura Kunihiro got 1,203 votes and won a one-on-one race with a conservative by a margin of 103 votes. Tsumura called on voters to join hands in establishing a friendly Koyagi irrespective of their pros and cons regarding the merger.

In the Iojima constituency for one seat by three candidates, JCP candidate Uchida Takahide won the race with a narrow margin of 12 votes.

With these two seats, the JCP now has five seats in the 50-seat Nagasaki City Assembly that includes the newly added six seats. (end)
