Women celebrate International Women's Day

On International Women's Day (March 8), about 400 people marched in demonstration in Tokyo calling for improvement of women's social status.

Holding rape blossoms and colorful banners, the participants chanted, "Don't revise the Constitution and the Fundamental Law of Education," and "Defend jobs and living conditions," as they marched through the streets of the Ginza.

In the evening, an annual national rally in commemoration of International Women's Day was held at Kudan Kaikan in Tokyo with about 1,200 people attending.

Komori Yoichi, Tokyo University professor and secretary-general of the Article 9 Association, gave a lecture titled, "It's time now to defend the Constitution and Fundamental Law of Education." He stressed, "In order to prevent the U.S. from using Japanese young people as a tool to pursue its global strategy, we must defend Article 9." (end)
