Workers work more than 31 hours overtime a month

One out of five workers work more than 50 hours overtime each month.

Akahata of April 3 reported that the Japan Institute for Labour Policy and Training found this in a survey it conducted in June last year. The average hours of overtime was 31.6 hours a month, and the average hours of unpaid overtime was 35.4 hours a month.

The survey, responded to by 3,000 people, also shows that the younger the workers are, the longer they work overtime.

The reason that 61.8 percent of respondents gave for their overtime work was that they cannot finish their work within regular working hours, and 35.3 percent said that their company does not have enough staff due to personnel cuts. (end)
