JCP chair meets with China-Japan Friendship Society vice chair

Japanese Communist Party Central Executive Committee Chair Shii Kazuo on October 3 had a meeting with Chen Yongchang, China-Japan Friendship Society vice president, at the JCP head office.

Chen said that the friendship movement between Japan and China is undergoing major developments along with increasing exchanges between the Communist Party of China and the Japanese Communist Party. The China-Japan Friendship Society and the Japan-China Friendship Association jointly held a meeting and a symposium in Beijing marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, he added.

Chen also said that the JCP is playing a significant role in further increasing China-Japan relations, defending world peace, and in maintaining undistorted historical views in Japan.

JCP Chair Shii said that JCP Central Committee Chair Fuwa Tetsuzo's suggestions in his May 11 JCP speech concerning Yasukuni Shrine and the history textbook issues influenced media reports and public opinion. The pending issue of Japan's historical outlook must be solved through domestic efforts, Shii emphasized.

Shii also spoke about Japan's political situation after the general election and about recent JCP activities. -- Akahata, October 4, 2005
