Business circle evaluates political partiesÕ performance

The Japan Business Federation (Nippon Keidanren) on October 11 issued a "report card" rating the performance of the Liberal Democratic and Democratic parties.

Using its "policy priorities" as the criteria for rating, Nippon Keidanren evaluated the two parties' policies, efforts, and results on a scale of A to E. It encourages its affiliated corporations to use the "report card" as a reference for political donations.

The report card said that LDP policies are most in accord with what Nippon Keidanren is calling for. It also appreciated the LDP's postal privatization policy, stating, "By dissolving the House of Representatives, the LDP showed its strong determination to carry out reform."

In the field of "diplomacy and security," Nippon Keidanren gave an "A" to the LDPÕs policies and "B" for the government decision to jointly develop and produce a missile defense system with the U.S. It also expressed satisfaction with the LDPÕs call for constitutional revision. -- Akahata, October 12, 2005
